Welcome to the Maps Modeling New York blog. In this article, Maps Modeling New York discusses how to approach black and white photography. While many amateurs simply do a color shoot and then convert later to black and white, pros know to start out in black and white, not only in concept but in the setup as well. There are a number of things you can do before you start shooting that can help you achieve some truly stunning results when working in monochrome alone.
Models who have uniqueness in presence or expression will excel in black and white, as will those who know how to express emotion in their eyes. Makeup for black and white photography is different than for color photography. It needs to be applied much much more thickly than for a color shoot, and the color choices should focus on those that bring out the most contrast: blacks, whites, and grays. Also different kinds of make up respond differently to different kinds of lighting, so ideally there will be time to do a check and adjust the makeup before the shoot.
When choosing clothes and accessories, choose items that stand out because of their cut, shape, and texture. Color-wise, it can be helpful to use clothing and/or accessories that are either black or white, but if you know what kind of color filter you’ll be applying in post processing, you can use color to your advantage.
The lighting for black and white fashion photography doesn’t necessarily need to be much different than in your color shoots, but pay special attention to where the shadows fall, the quality of the drop off, and how the tones blend into each other.

Welcome to the Maps Modeling New York blog. Possibly the most important element of a successful fashion photo is generally the model. Models are obviously the focus of a shot. So as photographers, we’ve got to be pretty on it with who we choose to shoot! The best way to get the best models? Working with an agency. Lets break it down.
THINGS TO REMEMBER
DO NOT SHOOT NUDE – nudity isn’t really necessary. It won’t end up in the models book, it doesn’t look good on you, just don’t do it! Shooting nude or dressing models in sheer clothing is risky business when you’re working with a 16 year old.
THESE IMAGES ARE FOR YOUR PORTFOLIO – whatever you do DO NOT make the mistake of shooting client work with a model under the impression that this is a test shoot. The agency will find out and they’ll send you a bill.
KEEP THE IMAGE USABLE – by that Maps Modeling New York means don’t go heavy on the makeup and keep the hair simple. The more you do to the model, the less likely they’ll be able to use it in their book. Leave the crazy stuff for editorials!
The best advice we can give is to start with smaller agencies and work your way up. Don’t know who to contact and who to hold off contacting? Do some research! Good luck!

Welcome to the MAPS Modeling Studios New York blog. In today’s blog, MAPS Modeling Studios New York shares beauty hacks to simplify your mornings. Mornings always end up feeling rushed. But what if I told you you can have beauty without makeup? If you find yourself in one of these categories, you’re going to love these beauty hacks to simplify your mornings!
1. Exfoliate. Exfoliation is key for glowing skin. You should be exfoliating once or twice a week to help your skin look young and smooth. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells, revealing healthier, fresher skin, and if you have acne marks, it will work to fade them. Once you remove the dead layer of skin that makes your face feel dull and tired, you’ll have skin that shines, even without makeup!
2. Tighten Your Pores. There are ways to tighten and hide your pores without using makeup. One hack you can use is to splash your face with cool water. Cold water causes your blood vessels to constrict, making your skin look more even. You can also use a pore tightening serum to minimize the look of pores, giving your skin a fresh, smooth look (check out our favourites in the section on no makeup beauty products we swear by!).
3. Moisturize. Immediately after using cold water to tighten your pores, it’s crucial that you moisturize. Otherwise, your skin is likely to become very dry. Moisturizing is key to healthy looking skin. Moisturizers provide hydration, making it easier for your skin to reflect light and give off a natural glow. Dehydrated skin, on the other hand, can look rough, grey and dull, so make sure to moisturize day and night!
4. Tone. Toners work wonders to enhance the look of your skin. They’re designed to help restore the skin’s pH balance, as a disrupted pH balance can lead to inflammation, dryness, and aging skin. Toners give your skin a refreshing lift, helping to repair, restore and renew your skin. They can help minimize the appearance of large pores, protect your skin from environmental stressors throughout the day, and hydrate your skin from day to night!
5. Drink and Sleep Your Way to Glowing Skin. Drinking water and getting a proper night’s sleep is key for good skin that you can rock sans makeup. Follow the 8 by 8 rule: 8 glasses of water a day and 8 hours of sleep at night to let your skin repair, get rid of dark circles, and make you look awake and refreshed!
6. Groom Your Brows. Your brows have the power to frame your entire face, so as long as you groom them the way you like, they can completely enhance your face without makeup. Remove stray hairs to help frame your eyes and give you more defined facial features. You can trim or pluck at home, or go to a salon to get your brows waxed and shaped by a professional. If your brows are really light and fair, you can get your eyebrows tinted to make them stand out!
7. Elongate Your Lashes. When you’re not wearing makeup, it’s usually best to draw attention to your eyes. Long, lush lashes are a great way to do this, and you can do so without mascara. If you already have full lashes, a quick flick of an eyelash curler will do the trick! Or, you can opt for a lash growing serum to nourish and elongate your lashes.
8. Whiten Your Teeth. Whitening your teeth can brighten up your entire face, and is one of the best beauty hacks around! You don’t necessarily want them to look bleached white, you want them to be harmonious with your face.
You don’t need to wear makeup to look great! Use these hacks and products to simplify your mornings and look amazing sans makeup! Welcome to the MAPS Modeling Studios blog. In today’s blog MAPS Modeling Studios shares about skin care secrets. Whether you’re trying to get into modeling or you already are a model, having a positive and healthy outlook is a key ingredient to model success. As well as the great attitude, your body and skin are also a factor. From fitness and real-life models to plus size and high fashion models, looking after yourself makes you feel great and when you’re glowing with confidence and positivity that’s when casting managers notice you more. Let’s get started!
Drink water, water, and more water!
You know this right? Good because water keeps your skin hydrated, bright and beautiful.
Try not to touch your face.
That sounds a little weird, however when you’re walking around touching handles, doors and touching your face can spread bacteria even just from pore to pore, especially if you already have a little breakout.
Never sleep with your makeup on.
eaving your makeup plus the dirt of the day on your skin is a recipe for breakouts. It takes just a few minutes to remove, cleanse and moisturize before bed so start from today.
Invest in a moisturizer with SPF.
Take yourself down to the shops and check out the moisturizers with SPF to help protect your skin from sun damage and keep you looking younger for longer.
That’s all for today!
